Hello Everyone!

Hello everyone and thank you so much for visiting the Miss Greater Derry website. I would first like to say how truly honored I am to be the newly crowned 2007 Miss Greater Derry!  Having been raised in Derry my whole life, I have seen firsthand how wonderful my community is and I know it has the potential to grow into something even greater! One of my favorite quotes is by Albert Schweitzer (1875 - 1965) "You must give some time to your fellow men. Even if it's a little thing, do something for others - something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it." It is my privilege to give back to my very own community and I am so excited to have this incredible opportunity it to be your new Miss Greater Derry!

My plan as Miss Greater Derry is to become as involved as possible within my community with my platform. My platform is "Brain Injury Awareness and Prevention and one of my goals is to educate all of the children in the Derry school system about the importance of wearing their bicycle helmets; while also educating the adults in the community about the importance of supporting this "silent epidemic".

A recent study conducted in New Hampshire shows that more children, teens and young adults are killed, hospitalized or permanently disabled by brain injuries in New Hampshire than any other single cause. The instances of hospitalization due to traumatic brain injury (TBI) outnumbered those for cancer, AIDS, heart disease and drug or alcohol abuse. An estimated one of every 250 New Hampshire residents experiences a TBI serious enough to result in death or hospital-based treatment each year. With the help of the Miss Greater Derry Organization, I will ultimately be remembered for helping to greatly reduce the number of trauma tic brain injuries not only in Derry but also in the State of New Hampshire.

Please continue to check back on this website for updates and photos from my appearances and also for updates on my progress as I prepare to take the stage as I compete in May for the title of Miss New Hampshire 2008.

Sincerely,

Katrina Bernard
